Renewal Information

Overview

To renew your Drinking Water Operator, Wastewater Operator, Water Distribution System Operator, Wastewater Collection System Operator, Drinking Water Laboratory Analyst, or Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Certification, you must earn a certain number of points and then apply for your renewal. All of these certifications expire on June 30th of every odd year.

Renewal Points

The number of points necessary is dependent on your certification type and level. Points are earned through approved coursework. Due to rules set forth by the Georgia State Board of Examiners for Certification of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators and Laboratory Analysts, some licenses require a certain percentage of points must be in approved areas of coursework.

All of the courses at GWWI have been approved by the Georgia State Board of Examiners for the Certification of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators and Laboratory Analysts for some amount of certification renewal points. GWWI also has courses available to renew GAWP Backflow and GAWP Maintenance Technologist certifications.

Applying for Renewal

Once the operator or analyst obtains the correct number of points, the renewal candidate must apply for renewal through the Board of Water & Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators & Laboratory Analysts. The option to renew will be available several months before the renewal deadline.
